NATALIE PORTMAN: FILMOGRAPHY

Developing

Summary of the movie:
This soul-searching independent short movie drama from 1995, by writer, director and producer Marya Cohn, tells the story of a single mother who has her share of problems to deal with. Breast cancer is only the tip of the iceberg of her problems; she also has to bring herself to level with her teenage daughter, who is just barely scratching the surface of puberty. What can she possibly understand of the emotional and psychological trauma her mother must endure?

Frances Conroy, Natalie Portman and John De Vries star in this little seen, 28 minutes long drama.

My personal opinion of the movie:
I was a little bit disappointed by this movie, not because of the actors - they did a fine job - but because of the format the movie is in. Short movies are more often than not used to tell fairly offbeat tales, while this is a serious drama. The problem is that due to the short running time, the movie never really manages to build up any real drama or tension. It feels like a reader's digest version of a much longer movie.
